Maintaining a healthy weight can help you feel good and have the energy to do the things you want to do. It can also help you prevent and manage many chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. Here's a quick guide to using the Shido App to help you achieve or maintain your ideal weight:

Nutrition tracking

While a well-balanced diet is key to overall health there are specific elements you can include in your diet to help support your weight. Using our health tracker to ensure adequate intake of:

  • Vitamins C & D
  • Magnesium
  • Fibre
  • Protein

will help to ensure your body is primed to support your healthiest weight. To further support this make sure to keep track of your calorie, alcohol and sugar intake.

Just track your day’s food in the Log Food & Activities section of the app and at the end of the day go to the Nutriscore section and make sure you are hitting your target on the brain-boosting nutrients you need.

Knowledge is power

Weight loss advice: there’s A LOT of it out there. With all the weight loss information (and misinformation) in the world available on your smartphone, it can be hard to separate genuine evidence-based advice from the pseudoscience, flashy promises and fruitless fads.

This is what inspired us to create our comprehensive Weight Wellness audio course. This course is presented by nutritionist and scientific communicator Ben Atkinson MSc ANutr MIANE who has stripped back all the noise and offers up the unbiased science behind effective weight management.

Go to the Courses section of the app and select the Weight Wellness course. It is a 9-day course and we advise you to listen to one lesson per day.

Sleep is essential for regulating the hormones that affect hunger and appetite. Poor sleep can lower your metabolism, making it harder to burn calories. Establishing healthy sleep habits can support your weight loss efforts.

While no one's saying you'll wake up lighter simply by sipping water before bed (or any other time of day), evidence supports the water–weight loss connection. Science suggests that proper hydration can help with weight loss in a variety of ways. It may suppress your appetite, boost your metabolism, and make exercise easier and more efficient, all of which could contribute to you achieving your healthiest weight.

Movement

Exercise is an important component of weight loss. It works best when paired with a moderate calorie deficit. It’s important to find a type of exercise you enjoy, as consistency is more important than intensity.

The Shido app is here to support you on your movement journey. Head over to the Fitness area and select a workout to get you moving. You can choose from exercise forms such as:

  • Bodyweight
  • Cardio & Conditioning
  • Hiit
  • Pilates
  • Yoga
  • Weight training
  • Shadow boxing
  • Resistance bands
  • Chair-based workouts

In times of stress, opting for low-impact exercises such as yoga, pilates or walking is advisable.

Walking is an often overlooked but powerful tool in your weight management arsenal. It's accessible, enjoyable, and offers a multitude of benefits beyond just burning calories. So, lace up your shoes, step outside, and start walking your way to a healthier and happier you!

Go to the Log Food & Activities area and choose to track your step count, set yourself a daily target (7,000 steps is a good starting point) and get moving!
