Boost Brain Health with Shido

Changes to your body and brain are normal as you age. However, there are some things you can do to keep your brain sharp and to help slow any decline in memory, lowering your risk of developing Alzheimer's. Here's a quick guide to using the Shido App to help support your brain health:

Nutrition tracking

While a well-balanced diet is key to overall health there are specific elements you can include in your diet to help support your brain health. Using our health tracker to ensure adequate intake of:

  • B vitamins
  • Vitamins C & E
  • Omega-3
  • Zinc
  • Protein

will help to ensure your body is primed to support your brain health. To further support this make sure to keep track of your sugar and alcohol intake and that they are both kept to a minimum.

Just track your day’s food in the Log Food & Activities section of the app and at the end of the day go to the Nutriscore section and make sure you are hitting your target on the brain-boosting nutrients you need.

Sleep

Sleep is absolutely instrumental in cognitive function, mental acuity and the ability to concentrate and learn new things. During sleep, your brain deals with information received during the day. It consolidates memories and clears plaque-forming amyloids and tau proteins associated with Alzheimer’s disease.

Head to the Log Food & Activities section to set yourself a sleep goal and make sure to hit your goal as regularly as possible.

Meal plan

Not sure what to cook to help support your brain health? We have a 7-day brain-boosting meal plan that will fill your week with the right micro/macro balance of brain-nourishing nutrients. Go to the Meal Plan section of the app and choose the Brain Health Meal Plan. Remember, all our meal plans can be tailored to vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free or dairy-free. Bon appetit.

Hydration

Water accounts for around 75% of the brain's mass, even a 2% decrease in hydration can impact the brain's function. This can lead to poor focus and attention.

Head to the Log Food & Activities section to set yourself a hydration goal and make sure to hit your goal daily.

Movement

Physical activity can help you think, learn, problem-solve, and enjoy an emotional balance. It can improve memory and reduce anxiety or depression. Regular physical activity can also reduce your risk of cognitive decline, including dementia.

The Shido app is here to support you on your movement journey. Head over to the Fitness area and select a workout to get you moving. You can choose from exercise forms such as:

  • Bodyweight
  • Cardio & Conditioning
  • Hiit
  • Pilates
  • Yoga
  • Weight training
  • Shadow boxing
  • Resistance bands
  • Chair-based workouts

In times of stress, opting for low-impact exercises such as yoga, pilates or walking is advisable.

Whether you are a keen walker who is focused on step count or a gym bunny who wants to hit a weekly goal, we can track it.
